Women of Wonder: Teresa Moon

Women of Wonder Teresa Moon shares her journey of leaving her 9 to 5 and how she balances wonder as a full time mom, wife and Influencer.

Wonder

Thank you so much for taking the time out to connect with me and for sharing your story! As you briefly shared, you have lived a life full of WONDER. Deciding to be brave, go after your passion, and walk into the unknown is worthy of sharing to many other women who seek to do the same with their life.

Speaking of wonder and living your life full of wonder, can you share more about your story?

I’m 31 years old, I live in Florida with my husband and daughter. I sort of unexpectedly fell into the online world a few years ago, and now I’m a full-time blogger and creator! I’m not anywhere near where I want to be yet, but I’ll share more of how this all happened for me in the hopes that it inspires other women (or men!) to follow their dreams, too.

I basically quit my job to become my own boss, and a big reason why was because I was sick of the unfairness and inequalities of women in my workplace. I wanted to take control of my life and not have to listen to men anymore! I’m happy to share more about that another time if anyone wants to hear.

But basically my husband and I planned it all out. And for over a year I sucked it up at my job, saved up some money, and tried to grow a business online that would allow me to quit. And in January 2020, I finally did it!

Can you tell me more about your mindset and your feelings you felt before taking the leap?

Oh I was absolutely terrified! My job had its issues, but it was safe. And I had a daughter. So part of me wanted to take the safe and secure income for my family. But I kept reminding myself that happiness and dignity were more important than a paycheck. I also kept reminding myself that I’m motivated by success, so I knew once I quit that I would be extremely motivated to make it work for my family.

What felt right to you? Why did you understand that this was meant to be?

It was honestly magical. I don’t even know how to describe it. The second I quit, I remember driving home and crying tears of joy because I felt so free. I was so proud of myself!

I knew it was meant to be because within 12 hours of quitting, I got two big emails with brands wanting long term collaborations. I had never had a long term collaboration before, and I got 2 emails the same day I quit. And within a few days of quitting, I had 2 big trips booked with brands. It wasn’t a coincidence, it was all a sign from the influencer gods that I had made the right choice!

After taking the leap, what were the obstacles that you faced? How did you handle it?

It’s only been five months since I quit, and the obvious obstacle was coronavirus. It absolutely killed me! Less than two months after quitting, the virus hit and a lot of brands had to pull out of collaborations for obvious reasons and I’m only now starting to see them pick back up again, but it’s slow. I’m trying to use the extra time to work on my blog and other areas of my business.

Looking back at your journey now, do you have any regrets? What would you say to your self in that moment?

There are probably a few things I would’ve done differently if I could go back, but I wouldn’t say I have any regrets. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and oftentimes, that reason is to teach you something. And that’s what I tell myself when I get a negative email from a brand or a disrespectful comment from a friend. I tell myself to handle it the best way I can because I will grow from it. The big picture is always more important and we must be strong mentally to constantly remember that. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

What would you say to any woman who desires to live a life full of wonder?

I would say “YES GIRL!” But I would also say “Be smart, girl!” This industry is wildly saturated and you need to have a plan in order to make it. You can’t just post pretty pictures and expect people to follow you and buy what you’re selling. My advice is be true to yourself, be genuine, and be uniquely YOU! Don’t copy what other people are doing. Oh, and network like crazy, stay consistent with your content, and learn from people who are where you want to be.

Do it for the right reasons, enjoy what you’re doing, and follow your dreams with your whole heart. I truly believe that is the combination for every woman to live a life full of wonder!
